Undergraduate Study in Estonia
Estonia is becoming an increasingly popular destination for international students who wish to study in a world-class environment without overstretching themselves financially.
Compared to other English-speaking nations, the cost of studying in Estonia is considerably cheaper, to which a recent period of heavy investment in Estonia’s universities and colleges also ensures they are able to offer a diverse range of courses and qualifications to international students.
Career Colleges and Technical Colleges
For international students in Estonia who require a practical and highly specialised education, career and technical colleges offering specialised vocational training are an excellent choice.
There are over 1,500 career and technical colleges in Estonia and a recent period of heavy investment by the Canadian government was designed specifically to attract international students. They offer certificate and diploma programs in a wide variety of fields including business, technology, law and medicine, and their programs can take anything between six months and two years to complete.
Associate’s Degrees
Those who choose to study in Estonia, an Associate’s degree is often the perfect choice for those international students who are unsure or uncertain about certain aspects of their chosen career or educational future. An Associate’s degree often takes one or two years of study, which can be expanded to three or four years by transferring to a bachelor’s degree if this is available at your chosen institution.

Bachelor’s Degrees
To study for a bachelor’s degree in Estonia takes four years to complete. This is because Estonia education system requires students to take minor courses in addition to their primary degree; however there are some three year courses available at selected institutions which do not include minor studies. At the end of your studies you may also choose to add a further year onto your course to achieve an Honours award.
Entry Requirements to study in Estonia
There are many different undergraduate courses in Estonia for international students, and each comes with their own unique entry criteria. This usually comes in the form of a minimum Grade Point Average score, and most colleges and universities take these figures from an educational equivalent of Estonia high school diploma.
Both the UK A-levels and the International Baccalaureate are accepted, but if you are unsure of the value of your qualifications you should speak to an educational expert at IEC Abroad to determine this.
Students who wish to study in English in Estonia, but their first language is not English will also be required to prove their proficiency in the language, and this can be done by taking IELTS or TOEFL tests. Most Estonia universities will have a minimum score which you need to achieve to qualify for a place. Students wishing to study in Quebec may additionally be required to demonstrate proficiency in French via the DALF, DELF, TCF and TCFQ tests.
