Masters & Postgraduate Study in Ireland

Ireland attracts students from across the globe and has an excellent reputation for education. With rich culture and beautiful scenery no matter where you go, this is also a truly wonderful country to complete your studies in too.

The range of courses is much similar to the UK and all subjects studied are in the English language. With over twenty universities in the country you have plenty of courses to choose from too!

Postgraduate Study In Ireland

Applying to study in Ireland is very simple, whether you live in the country or come from abroad. Each university will have its own entry rules, but generally all you have to do is apply directly to the international office of your chosen university.

Some institutes may ask you to apply through the Postgraduate Applications Centre, but this is also very clear and simple via their website and instructions.

Pre-Masters

Your English language and academic skills must be at a certain level to allow automatic access into a Master’s course. If you have not reached this level yet, you can take a Pre-Masters course that lasts between 6-12 months.

This will ensure you have the abilities required before starting a Master’s Degree. Only a select group of universities in Ireland will offer this option though.

Masters Degrees

Studying for a Masters degree in Ireland takes 1-2 years (full time). The course can be taught or research based. There is also the opportunity to study for a postgraduate diploma (lasting between 9 and 12 months). This can lead to a specific profession such as teaching (PGCE) or legal practice (GDL).

Postgraduate Admission Entry Requirements

Entry requirements will vary depending on the university and the course you have chosen. Most courses will require an undergraduate degree with a minimum grade of a 2:2. In some cases, especially for more popular course, you may require a 2:1 or higher.
